Buckhannon Buzz & Banter: Get the local lowdown for January 23, 2025

An Upshur County grand jury returned 25 indictments in the September 2026 term, according to the grand jury press report.

Mark D. Edgell, Sr., a disabled veteran, devoted father, and beloved Poppop, is remembered for his humor, fierce loyalty, and the light he brought to his family and friends.

Upshur County’s Sept. 14-20 sports calendar features local golf, volleyball, cross country, soccer, football and tennis. Buckhannon-Upshur and West Virginia Wesleyan teams compete throughout the week at home and on the road.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s five-game unbeaten streak ended with a 2-0 loss to Huntington, as Aidan Garmestani scored twice. The Bucs led in shots and corners and played a man up late, but couldn’t capitalize.

Buckhannon-Upshur placed three runners in the top 12 and scored 73 points to finish second at the Chick-fil-A Invitational. Gwendolyn Rogosky led the Lady Bucs in sixth, followed by Isabella Bowers in eighth and Chloe Lewis in 11th.

Mitchell Whitley led Buckhannon-Upshur with a 24th-place finish as the Buccaneers placed ninth among 17 teams at the Chick-fil-A Invitational. B-U returns Saturday for the Adidas Challenge in North Carolina.
