PHILIPPI, WEST VIRGINIA – Broaddus Hospital has announced the opening of Broaddus WoundCare, which offers comprehensive care for patients with non-healing wounds.

Emily Starks, FNP is a provider at Broaddus WoundCare and explains how wounds that do not heal properly may indicate an underlying health condition such as diabetes or circulation problems.

“Sometimes, a simple wound can turn into a significant problem because the body’s normal healing process is compromised. Non-healing wounds can have serious health consequences and may adversely affect a patient’s quality of life,” says Starks.

“Between five and seven million Americans experience at least one form of a non-healing wound annually and the incidence of these wounds is increasing by approximately 10 percent each year,” she added. “Many individuals suffer from wounds that refuse to heal despite conventional treatment. These wounds seldom involve a simple answer.”

Broaddus WoundCare specializes in the treatment of all types of non-healing and difficult-to-heal wounds including diabetic foot ulcers, venous and pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, arterial/ischemic ulcers, and others.

Patients are examined by a specially-trained provider and evaluated for all possible related conditions that could interfere with proper healing. The care team follows evidence-based clinical pathways to determine why wounds are not healing and then develops individual treatment plans, utilizing the most effective technologies available to provide maximum healing and relief.
