Bessie Koon, 101, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 15, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born March 2, 1917 in Custus, W.Va., a daughter of the late Claud and Rachel E. Luzader Lowther.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherley C. Koon who died on June 6, 1967; four sons, Kermit Eugene, James Howard, Jerry and Ray Koon; two daughters, Betty Gay Dulaney and Dorothy Lou Clingerman; two grandchildren; two brothers, Woodrow and Kenneth Lowther; and one sister, Ethel Lowther.
She is survived by one daughter, Zelma Lynn Wilsey and husband Neil of Md.; three sons, Claud D. Koon and wife Marsha of Frenchton, W.Va., Richard Koon and wife Pam and Jesse B. Koon all of Buckhannon; two daughters-in-law, Becky Koon of Buckhannon and Dottie Koon of Ohio; one son-in-law, Bud Clingerman of Buckhannon; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Koon was a homemaker and Christian by Faith.
Friends will be received Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Murrell and Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. Burial will follow in the Lanham Cemetery in Queens, W.Va.
