Basketball ‘Cats start season 1-1 at Joe Retton Classic

FAIRMONT — The West Virginia Wesleyan College Bobcat men’s basketball team opened its season Friday and Saturday in a mixer tournament at Fairmont State University against two Pennsylvania Scholastic Athletic Conference schools.

In Friday’s opener, the Bobcats sealed a 92-87 victory over of Edinboro University. The victory was in large part due to the hot shooting of Deiker Pedrino who lit up the floor with a 32-point performance. Pedrino shot 11-for-16 from the field that included four three-pointers

Also contributing to the victory with double figures was Manasses Small with 11 points, and Raphael Houssou with 10 points and nine rebounds. Max Harris added nine points and eight rebounds to the cause and Alex Mirhosseini had eight points at six assists.

On Saturday, the Bobcats fell to Bloomsburg University 98-93. Pedrino, again lead the team in scoring with 25 points at Max Harris added 24 points and nine rebounds.

The men’s basketball team returns to action Monday, Nov. 13 when it hosts California University of Pa. in Rockefeller Center at 6 p.m.
