Basketball ‘Cats end calendar year with two losses in Ohio

CANTON — The West Virginia Wesleyan College men’s basketball team (1-11) finished the fall semester of play with a pair of losses in Canton, Ohio.

In the first game on Dec. 18 at Malone University, the Bobcats were defeated 71-59. Leading the way for Wesleyan was Alex Mirhosseini with 17 points and seven rebounds. He was aided by Deiker Padrino who continued his season of hot shooting, scoring 16 points and grabbing six rebounds. Curtis Litton added 12 points to the cause.

In the second game on Dec. 19, Mirhosseini got hot against Walsh University in a losing effort 94-76. He went 12-of-23 for 30 points and four assists. Padrino added 15 points and together, Mirhosseini and Padrino scored more than the rest of the Bobcats combined.

On the season, Padrino is fifth in the Mountain East Conference in scoring with 16.5 points-per-game and he is first in the conference in three-pointers made with 33. Mirhosseini is eighth in scoring in the conference with a 14.7 average, and third in three-pointers made with 27.

The Bobcats will be off until January 10 when the team returns to action in the Rockefeller Center when they host the Concord University Mountain Lions at 7:30 p.m.
