Baseball ‘Cats tabbed for fifth in MEC preseason poll

BRIDGEPORT — Frostburg State University and the University of Charleston have been picked as the divisional favorites for the upcoming Mountain East Conference baseball season, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. The 2025 MEC Baseball Preseason Poll was compiled via a vote of the league’s 11 head coaches.

Frostburg State was picked to win the North Division and received 10 first-place votes. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. The Bobcats finished 37-16 overall and 24-4 in MEC play last season, winning their third consecutive North Division title. Frostburg State’s 2024 season ended in NCAA Regional play.

MEC newcomer Point Park received the other first-place vote, and is picked to finish second in the North ahead of Wheeling, Fairmont State, and West Liberty. PPU finished 42-15 in its final season in NAIA play. The Pioneers lost in the NAIA National Championship opening round.

In the South, UC received nine of a possible 11 first-place votes to lead the division. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish ahead of West Virginia State, Concord, Glenville State, West Virginia Wesleyan, and Davis & Elkins. Concord received two first-place votes. Charleston has won four consecutive MEC South Division titles, sweeping the 2024 division and MEC tournament championships. UC finished 44-10 last season, including a 26-4 mark in league competition.
