Barbour Community Health Association (BCHA) has announced the promotion of Casey Jo Cottrill, PsyD., to Director of School-Based Health Services, which serves all Barbour County schools.

BCHA operates clinics at Philippi Elementary, Belington Elementary-Middle, Kasson Elementary-Middle, Philippi Middle and Junior Elementary Schools. BCHA also operates the Brandon Wellness Center at Philip-Barbour High School. These school-based clinics provide a range of healthcare services, including well-child visits, behavioral health services, medication distribution, sports physicals and regular visits for chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes.

In her role as director, Cottrill will manage school-based health staff, promote the increased utilization of the clinics’ services and work directly with school administrators and staff to ensure the School-Based Health Centers meet the health and wellness needs of all Barbour County students.

Cottrill joined BCHA and the Brandon Wellness Center in 2022 as a licensed clinical psychologist providing school-based psychotherapy services. She also serves on the staff of the William M. Kester, Jr. Behavioral Health Center team at Belington Clinic, where she provides behavioral health services to patients of all ages.

Cottrill earned a Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree from Marshall University, where she also earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology. In addition, Cottrill holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Some of her clinical experiences include school-based services at Sissonville High School and Middle School through Cabin Creek Health Systems, integrated consultation/liaison psychiatry and outpatient psychotherapy/assessment services through Charleston Area Medical Center, group therapy at Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital and psychotherapy/assessment services at Marshall Psychiatry.

She also is a member of the Bright Futures Coalition, American Psychological Association, West Virginia Psychological Association and the Collaborative Family Health Care Association. Her focus areas are in school-based behavioral health services with training and special interests in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain and written exposure therapy for PTSD. Additionally, Cottrill is part of the 2026 cohort of Emerging Leaders with the West Virginia Primary Care Association (WVPCA).

“We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Casey Jo Cottrill as the new director of our School-Based Health Centers,” said Eric Ruf, CEO of BCHA. “Her experience as a behavioral health professional, including working in both school- and community-based settings here in Barbour County, helps position her for success. She also brings to this role strong leadership skills and a real passion for serving our students and our communities at large.”

“I look forward to working with our dedicated staff as we seek new and impactful ways to better serve Barbour County students and their families,” said Cottrill. “We offer a wide array of health services in our clinics, and we hope to reach more students to optimize their health, enhance their well-being and help them reach their full potential.”
