B-UHS Fine Arts Students of the Week: Grace Ramsey and Aubree Bozic

Each week Buckhannon-Upshur High School features two Fine Arts Students of the Week to highlight the work students are doing in the art world.

Visual Arts Student of the Week: Grace Ramsey

Grade: 12

Favorite Roles/Pieces/Shows Performed/Etc:  I have three favorite pieces as of now. A realistic eye oil painting and a charcoal reduction portrait of a Greek sculpture, both of which were created in Mrs. Gum’s classroom. My third favorite is the first acrylic landscape painting I made freshman year, titled “On Tranquil Waters”.

Why are the arts important to you? For as long as I can remember, I have always had a strong interest in the arts. As I was growing up I never developed an appreciation for anything other than drawing and painting. Since my dad is an artist himself, he has been both my biggest inspiration and supporter. The gift of artistry has run on my dads side of the family for generations; therefore, I would love nothing more than to keep following my passion for painting.

Future Plans:  While my future plans are not set in stone, I would love to attend an art school of some kind. I’ve jumped around many ideas from being an art professor to being an art therapist. I haven’t found a particular occupation in the art field that sparks my interest yet, but I do know for sure I want to enhance my skills in a college/university setting and dive deeper into the rich histories of the arts.

Additional Info You Would Like to Add: As much as I love to create I also have an intense fascination for science-based color theory. I enjoy storing up on as much art knowledge as I can to improve my abilities. The idea of vision science seems interesting as well. I am definitely interested in learning how our eyes perceive light and color.

Favorite Roles/Pieces/Shows Performed/Etc: The 2022 field show, “Queen” was by far my favorite. It featured a complex set of music and complex charts of formations.

Why are the arts important to you? Music was created by God and I get to worship Him through it every time I practice or perform.

Future Plans: I plan on going to college to become a music educator.

Additional Info You Would Like to Add: I teach piano lessons.
