B-U swim teams split home meet with Philip Barbour and Grafton

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur boys and girls swim teams returned to the pool after a three-week break in their schedule hosting Philip Barbour and Grafton Wednesday evening at the West Virginia Wesleyan pool.

Both teams split their two dual outings. The Lady Bucs beat Grafton by a 71-25 score but lost a close event to Philip Barbour by a 65-51 score.

For the Bucs, they downed Grafton by a 51-22 score but lost to Philip Barbour 57-39.

The Lady Bucs won two of the nine events they competed in.

Mallory Hughes swam unopposed in the 200-yard IM swimming a time of 2:52.66 and Lilian Fetty bested two other swimmers in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:25.31, 16 full seconds ahead of her second-place competitor.

The boys picked up two wins, one individual and one relay.

Carter Zuliani got the individual win with against four others in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.35 while the foursome of Aidan Squires, Jackson Malone, Johnny Chen and Riley Bender swam unopposed in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:09.71.

Both teams will return to the pool Friday at Bridgeport in a tri-meet with the Indians and the Elkins Tigers.
