B-U rally comes up short in 3-2 home setback to Grafton

TENNERTON – Down 3-0 midway through the second half, the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Bucs rallied with two Tim Snyder goals but time ran out before they could catch Grafton as they suffered a 3-2 setback Thursday night at Ted Crites Alumni Field at Tom Hasbrouck Stadium.

Grafton took a 2-0 in the first half on a pair of Jude Minard goals.

Grafton added to their lead in the 48th minute behind a Spencer Copeland goal making it a 3-0 contest.

The Bucs finally got on the board in the 53rd minute when Snyder had a touch on the ball behind a defender and put a shot under Grafton keeper Bryson Kittle.

Snyder brought the Bucs to within one in the 72nd minute when he played a negative ball from Noah Radabaugh and finished with a goal to the back post, but the Bucs weren’t able to get the game-tying goal the rest of the way.

“The slow start tonight ended up hurting us in the end,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato. “We were slow to step to balls and challenge possession, and paid for it by giving up some easy goals. Once we got settled in and played more aggressive, we were a totally different team. We got great opportunities getting behind their defense and worked for a few quality goals. Hopefully we can learn something from that poor start and adjust from that going forward.”

The Bucs were outshot by a 10-7 margin and trailed in corner kicks by a 7-3 margin.

Buckhannon-Upshur was guilty of seven fouls while the Bearcats were called for eight.

Dalton Auvil made seven saves in net for the Bucs while Bryson Kittle made five stops for Grafton.

The loss dropped the Bucs to 2-5-1 on the season.

They will return to action Saturday hosting Princeton at noon.
