B-U Camera Club tours historic Kump Home

ELKINS — Seventeen Buckhannon Upshur Camera Club members and guests were treated to a tour of the Historic Governor Kump Home in Elkins on Saturday, June 26.

A delightful hostess, Governor Kump’s granddaughter and director of the Kump Education Center, Dr. Heather Biola, was able to share details about the home and furnishings as well as information about the community and political climate in the 1930s in Elkins. Members found the old Philco radio, the refrigeration system, old photographs and secret compartments in the furniture especially fascinating.

After the tour, club members were able to photograph the home, historic details and property and enjoy a picnic on the grounds. The club expressed thanks to Dr. Biola and K.J. Shaffer for their hospitality and expertise and voted to make a donation to the center.

The next stop on the club outing was a stop in downtown Elkins and time to enjoy a concert at the Elkins Railyard. The Buckhannon Upshur Camera Club meets monthly and is glad to welcome new members as we joyfully restart some of our activities. You can find BUCC on our Facebook group, Buckhannon Upshur Camera Club.
