AmeriCorps project support available in AFNHA region

AFNHA now invites non-profit and government organizations to host AmeriCorps members for project support in environmental conservation, community development, and cultural heritage preservation through one-year full-time roles starting September 2025, with shorter-term slots to follow.

Does your non-profit or government organization need support for projects? Consider hosting an AmeriCorps Member! Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area (AFNHA) is now accepting applications from partners seeking AmeriCorps support for eligible projects aligned with AFNHA themes and mission being executed between September 2025 and August 2026.

“Hosting an AmeriCorps member can be a cost-effective method for organizations to build their capacity and accomplish additional projects,” explained Jennifer Rhyner, AFNHA’s AmeriCorps Program Manager. “A single AmeriCorps member can have an exponential impact on their organization whether it’s managing volunteers leading to increased volunteer hours, creating exhibits that lead to increased visitation, or leading projects that restore public lands or preserve historic properties,” Rhyner added.

Full-time slots are available for one-year positions starting September 3. Non-profit organizations or government agencies may apply to host project-based positions that support asset improvement or educational stewardship related to environmental conservation, community development, and/or cultural heritage. Shorter-term slots may be available later in the year or in combination with other short-term requests by different project partners. Contact americorps@afnha.org to discuss or visit www.afnha.org/getanamericorps for more information or to access the application.

The Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area conserves, interprets, and promotes forest heritage to enhance landscapes and communities in the highlands of West Virginia and Maryland. AFNHA works with partners to accomplish this through community development, conservation, celebrating cultural heritage, and creating opportunities for transformational experiences. AFNHA is a member of the National Heritage Area System. To learn more, see www.appalachianforestnha.org.
