American Legion to conduct POW/MIA Ceremony following the 104th American Legion Birthday Dinner

On March 14, 2023 the Frank B. Bartlett American Legion Post 7 at 16 S. Kanawha will conduct the formal POW/MIA Ceremony following a dinner celebrating the 104th birthday of the organization.

The American Legion was formed by a group of veterans in 1919 in Paris, France. The Buckhannon Post 7 was chartered in July 1921, making it one of the earliest to receive that recognition. The oldest American Legion Post in the nation is Post 1, located in Wheeling, WV. That Post, like Post 7, remains active today.

Over its lifetime, the American Legion has been responsible for the writing and adoption of the GI Bill by congress. They have dedicated effort for many years in recognizing the problems veterans have encountered as a result of their service in areas affected by both Agent Orange and Burn Pits. Membership in the American Legion is available to all veterans who honorably served our nation anytime since December 7, 1941.

All veterans and immediate families are invited to this free event. Anyone with questions can call 304-460-7377.
