Alan Suder to fill second magistrate vacancy

BUCKHANNON — Twenty-sixth Judicial Court Judges Jacob Reger and Kurt Hall on Tuesday announced the appointment of Alan M. Suder as Upshur County magistrate.

Suder will fill the vacancy left by former Division 2 magistrate Kay Hurst, who resigned Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021 after serving only several weeks of her new term.

A press release sent to media by Reger’s and Hall’s offices says Suder has been a private business over for 30 years and has served three terms on the Upshur County Board of Education.

“Mr. Suder is [in the] fourth generation of Suders that have been raised in Upshur County, where he lives with his wife, Christy,” the release says.

Hurst resigned the same day the 26th Judicial Circuit Court Judges announced they had appointed former Upshur County Sheriff’s Captain Mark Davis to fill a slot left by longtime magistrate Mike Coffman.

Coffman left his post to accept the chief deputy position with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department.
