Additional ‘floating’ holiday available for WVU leave-eligible employees

Gov. Jim Justice today (July 3) issued executive orders declaring July 5, 2019 as an official holiday for State employees. The University has modified its holiday calendar to include an additional 7.5-hour “floating” holiday (pro-rated by FTE) for leave-eligible employees, effective July 5, 2019.

WVU will operate on a normal schedule, including classes, Friday, July 5.

Beginning July 5, leave-eligible employees at all WVU’s campuses may request approval to use the floating holiday time – or any portion of it – through the MyTime leave system.

To qualify for the floating holiday hours, employees must:

• Be leave-eligible and on WVU payroll on July 5, and

• either work their full shift or have enough paid leave (SL, AL, CTO) to cover any amount of time absent on the working day prior to and immediately following July 5.

Note: The floating holiday hours will not be available in the MyTime system until July 5. Further, employees using terminal leave on July 5, will not be eligible for the floating holiday hours.

The floating holiday hours may be used any time between July 5, 2019, and December 31, 2019. Floating holiday hours will not be paid out upon termination and are not eligible for transfer to another State agency. Any floating holiday hours not used by December 31, 2019, will be forfeited.
