The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 5,099 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 74 since the last report.
Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (47), Barbour (19), Lewis (34), Randolph (225) and Webster (33) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of eight active cases in the last 24 hours.
Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the DHHR – an 84-year old male from Wayne County, an 87-year old female from Raleigh County, a 79-year old female from Pocahontas County, and a 39-year old male from Wood County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 27, 2021, there have been 2,903,276 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 161,046 total cases and 2,792 deaths,” according to a press release.
The daily percent positive was 4.28%.
A total of 726,853 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 41% of the state.
