Obituary Mabel McKisic

Mabel Kathleen (Katy) Morris McKisic, 92, of the Heaston Ridge Community, Crawford, died Monday, July 12, 2021, at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon. 

She was born on September 29, 1928, at Arlington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles Porter and Inzie Mabel Rice Morris.  On October 10, 1959, she was united in marriage to Aubrey Doyle McKisic who preceded her in death on July 18, 2007. 

She is survived by her daughter Miral and husband Alvin Gibson of Crawford; son A.D. McKisic and wife Wendy of Flower Mound, Texas; three grandchildren:  Evan Gibson, Alec McKisic, and Catherine McKisic; sister-in-law Myrtle May Morris; and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother Eugene Morris; sisters and brothers-in-law:  Charleen (Conley) Haymond, Zeta (Charles) Williams, and Zela (Gilbert) Haymond; an infant brother Charles Morris, Jr.; stepson William Ray McKisic; and two nieces:  Sheila Williams and Karen Haymond Oliver.

Katy was a devoted follower of Christ and faithfully attended the Heaston United Methodist Church for over 50 years.  She was a 50-year member of the Straight Fork CEOS Club. She worked as a bookkeeper until finding her calling as a preschool educator, working many years as a Head Start teacher. She was known for her hospitality, and all were welcomed to her home for food and visits. She loved gardening and flowers and enjoyed church activities and Homecomings, especially at Heaston Ridge and her childhood church at Eden. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 16, 2021, from 6-8 p.m., at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel. The body will be moved to the Heaston United Methodist Church and lie-in-state on Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 10-11 a.m., with the funeral beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bill Warner officiating. Interment will follow in the Heaston Cemetery.
