The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 4,550 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 440 since the last report on Friday.
Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (50), Barbour (24), Lewis (25), Randolph (235) and Webster (39) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of five active cases since Friday.
Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease since Friday, according to the DHHR – a 78-year old female from Randolph County, a 92-year old female from Pleasants County, a 78-year old female from Wirt County, a 45-year old male from Kanawha County, and a 65-year old female from Kanawha County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 1, 2021, there have been 2,923,215 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 161,858 total cases and 2,797 deaths,” according to a press release.
The daily percent positive was 4.0%.
A total of 738,574 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 41% of the state.
