The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 4,990 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s decrease of 109 since the last report and the lowest level since mid-October 2020.
Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (45), Barbour (18), Lewis (30), Randolph (229) and Webster (33) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of two active cases in the last 24 hours.
No additional deaths have been attributed to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the DHHR.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 28, 2021, there have been 2,909,073 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 161,287 total cases and 2,792 deaths,” according to a press release.
The daily percent positive was 4.25%.
A total of 729,321 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 41% of the state.
