Barbour County man among six new COVID-19 deaths reported in West Virginia on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 339 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (2), Barbour (5), Lewis (2) and Randolph (5) counties.

A total of 16 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Six additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 76-year old male from Barbour County, a 99-year old male from Kanawha County, an 81-year old female from Kanawha County, a 63-year old female from Raleigh County, a 72-year old female from Harrison County and an 82-year old male from Jefferson County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 7, 2021, there have been 2,774,600 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 155,680 total cases and 2,719 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,075 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 145,886 people have recovered and 2,719 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.16%.

A total of 663,080 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 37% of the state.
