Wesleyan softball ends year with pair of losses to Glenville State

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan softball team closed out the year at home dropping both games to the Pioneers of Glenville State. A mercy rule game one ended in six innings as the Pioneer’s bats were hot in an 11-1 loss for the Lady Bobcats. Wesleyan dropped game two by a 6-1 score.

Game 1

Kendall Stoffel started the game and took the loss pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up four earned runs. Glenville State started the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run over the right centerfield wall. Emma Jackson collected the only run for the Lady Bobcats on an RBI ground-out scoring Jenna Gomez in the bottom of the third. A grand-slam in the sixth inning from Glenville State pushed the lead to 10 forcing a mercy-rule after the bottom of the sixth inning.

Game 2

Josi Fix took the loss pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up four earned runs. Mollie White pitched in relief giving up two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings. The Lady Bobcats held a one run lead for the first six innings as Kendall Stoffel singled in the first inning scoring Jenna Gomez. In the top of the sixth, two singles brought in four runs and making it a 4-1 game in favor of the Pioneers. In the top of the seventh, a two-run home run for Glenville State added some insurance runs and ended the game.

Wesleyan ended the year with a 17-32 record.
