Philippi, W.Va. – Broaddus Hospital welcomes Dr. Virgil “Waid” McMillion D.O., as a full-time emergency medicine physician in the Emergency Department.

Dr. McMillion earned his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV in 2003, and is currently completing a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Alabama.  Since 2009, Dr. McMillion has focused on Emergency Medicine, fulfilling Medical Directorship positions at several West Virginia hospitals.

“With nearly 17 years of practice in a broad spectrum of specialties, it has led to my developing a skill set in medicine that can translate into effective, efficient care,” McMillion said. “Whether it is in the emergency room, inpatient hospital, post-acute care or an outpatient clinic setting, the patient will get my best and the best of those around me.”

In the E.D. setting, McMillion stabilizes and treats patients who are having acute health problems or traumatic injuries.  He sees patients with diseases and conditions related to neurology, cardiology, pulmonology, renal issues, gastrointestinal problems, orthopedic concerns, pregnancy, gynecology, dermatology and psychiatry.

McMillion holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science from the College of West Virginia in Beckley, WV, and is a board certified member of the American College of Osteopathic Family. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathic Medicine and Emergency Medicine.

Additional medical certifications held by Dr. McMillion include: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); and NRP and ATLS.

Dr. McMillion and his wife, Bri, are avid Pittsburgh Penguins fans.  They enjoy time with their dogs, and are expecting their first child this summer.

The Broaddus Hospital Emergency Department offers the county’s only 24/7, 365 medical coverage.  On average, patients are seen by a triage nurse within 15 minutes of arrival to the E.D.
