The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 467 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.
Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (6), Barbour (2), Lewis (10) and Randolph (14) counties. A total of 128 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.
The spread of the virus continues to fall statewide, with 3,246 new cases reported in the last week. That’s the lowest seven-day total since the first week of November 2020.
Thirteen additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR.
“The loss of more West Virginians weighs heavily on our hearts,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “As West Virginians, we must not tire of preventive measures that ensure the health and safety of our friends, family, and neighbors. I urge you to continue wearing your mask, frequent hand washing and social distancing.”
The deaths included:
- a 93-year old male from Fayette County,
- a 98-year old female from Harrison County,
- an 82-year old male from Berkeley County,
- a 52-year old male from Berkeley County,
- a 75-year old female from Greenbrier County,
- an 82-year old female from Harrison County,
- a 77-year old male from Kanawha County,
- a 45-year old male from Kanawha County,
- a 93-year old female from Mercer County,
- a 68-year old female from Kanawha County,
- a 75- year old male from Lincoln County,
- a 63-year old male from Harrison County,
- a 68-year old male from Wood County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of February 12, 2021, there have been 2,043,213 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 126,887 total cases and 2,200 total deaths,” according to a press release.
About 13,103 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 111,584 people have recovered and 2,200 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.17%.
A total of 122,017 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
