Nearly two dozen new COVID-19 cases were reported on Saturday along the Route 33 corridor stretching from Lewis County to Randolph County.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday morning that Upshur County had a net increase of four new cases, while Randolph County had nine, Barbour County had seven and Lewis County had two.
In Upshur County, the Saturday DHHR report moved a probable case from Oct. 22 to a confirmed case on the same date. It also added one probable and three confirmed cases to Oct. 23.
A total of 46 cases are active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.
On the daily alert map, Upshur, Barbour and Randolph counties are categorized at green, the lowest risk level, while Lewis is yellow. That means schools will likely be permitted to open for the coming week, although that won’t be official until the 5 p.m. map is released by the W.Va. Department of Education.
No additional free testing events are currently scheduled locally.
Statewide, 320 new COVID-19 cases were reported, the third straight day West Virginia has announced more than 300 new cases. That mark had been crossed just once in the seven months between March and October.
No additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., October 24, 2020, there have been 714,405 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 21,712 total cases and 422 deaths,” according to a press release.
New cases were reported Saturday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Braxton, Brooke, Cabell, Doddridge, Fayette, Grant, Greenbrier, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Summers, Tucker, Upshur, Wayne, Wetzel, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming counties.
About 4,712 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 16,578 people have recovered and 422 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.16%.
