The Upshur County Commission held an emergency meeting today to discuss continued operations as they relate to COVID-19 due to our increase in local cases.
Effective immediately, the courthouse and other county-owned and operated facilities are open for essential business only during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the exception of James W. Curry Library’s Virtual Learning Program, which will continue its normal hours.
Court cases will continue as scheduled unless notification is otherwise provided by the Courts.
A list of helpful links and telephone numbers can be found below as online and telephonic business is highly encouraged. If you plan to visit the Courthouse, please call ahead to determine if your business will be considered essential.
When visiting the Courthouse, Court Security Officers will again encourage you to handle the business online or via telephone, if possible, and will respectfully decline your access to the facility if you are showing signs or symptoms of COVID-19.
During today’s Emergency Commission Meeting, the Commission’s vote was based on the Department of Education map that was updated yesterday, October 4th, and reflects Upshur County as “red.” Moving forward, operations of the Courthouse and County owned and managed facilities will be based on the map released at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
As always, the health and safety of county residents and employees are of utmost importance to the Upshur County Commission. Please rest assured that the Commission is actively monitoring this event and will release information to the press or via the DHSEM’s emergency notification system, WENS, if necessary.
