Three deaths, 123 new COVID-19 cases reported in West Virginia on Sunday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 123 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 81-year old male from Kanawha County, an 83-year old female from Logan County, and a 68-year old male from Monroe County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., on September 6, 2020, there have been 458,180 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 11,412 total cases and 246 deaths,” according to a press release.

One case was removed from Upshur County, which returned to 45 total. Three Upshur cases are active, according to the DHHR.

“As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested,” according to the press release.

New cases were reported Sunday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Fayette, Grant, Hampshire, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mercer, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Ohio, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker and Wood counties.

About 2,610 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 8,556 people have recovered and 246 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.37%.
