Lady Cats Down Caldwell in Home Opener

The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats hosted Caldwell University Cougars in a non-conference game for their home opener in the 2018 season. It was a beautiful August night, and the girls and fans were excited for it all to kick off.

The first 15 minutes of play there was back and forth action until the Lady Bobcats struck. Madison LaPole struck one to the bottom corner but the Goalkeeper made a great diving save. Natalie Prater for the Bobcats was there for the rebound and buried it in the back of the net as they would take a 1-0 lead.

About 5 minutes after the Bobcats taking the lead, Haley Kopf for the Cougars would deliver a deep free kick that would result in hitting the top left post. Meghan Grundhauser was there for the rebound off the pole and would drill it just over the crossbar. The score would still remain 1-0 Bobcats.

With about 20 minutes left in the first half of play, Bobcats were on the prowl as Shannon Shawgo delivered a perfect pass to Casey Underwood and she did the rest as she placed it past the goalkeeper. The Bobcats would take a 2-0 lead over the Cougars.

Within the first ten minutes of the second half, the Lady bobcats were looking to put this game away as Allison Crecelius drilled low shot, but the Cougars goalkeeper was there to make a diving save. The score would remain 2-0 Bobcats.

Roughly 14 minutes left in the second half of play, a great corner kick by the Bobcats led to a scuffle for the ball as it was inches away from a goal, but the Bobcats couldn’t capitalize.

As the clock ran down to end the second half, the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats would go on to win their home opener against the Caldwell University Cougars with a final score of 2-0. The Lady Bobcats are now 1-1 for their overall record and will be back on their home field next Sunday September 9th in their first conference game against the University of Charleston. The game is set to start at 1:00 PM.
