Wesleyan Enactus team places second in national competition

Buckhannon, W.Va. — West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Enactus Team has placed second in the 2020 Menasha Corporation’s Future of Employment Accelerator Competition.

The Wesleyan Enactus project focused on the creation of a website for recovering addicts to aid with employment (www.rae4hope.com). The team was one of five across the nation to receive a grant of $3,000 from Menasha through a competitive process last fall.  The second place award win was based on the team’s final project report submission and comes with an additional $5,000 prize.

The Wesleyan team worked with the Opportunity House, a local recovery center, and Menasha executives Doug Orischak, the director of customer continuous improvement, Tracy Papurello, the finance director of Menasha East Operations, Lloyd Kitchen, quality and compliance coordinator, Jeremy Baird, plant superintendent, Bev Stonick, senior human resources business partner, Eastern Region, Justine Poorbaugh, human resources representative, Western Pennsylvania, and Jennifer Twombly, senior human resources director

“The dedication of both the Wesleyan Enactus team as well as the external stakeholders was amazing in light of the social distancing and obstacles that had to be overcome to complete the project once the campus shut down,” said Dr. Tracie Dodson, Enactus co-advisor and associate professor of business. “Obviously, we are incredibly proud of our students and their national runner-up finish.”

The Enactus Leadership team included:  Kayla Wade, project leader, a junior accounting major from Clinton, PA, Rachel Pickett ‘20, project liaison and documenter, an accounting major from Barboursville, Hannah Hoadley, president of Enactus and a senior management major from Canada, and programmer, Mario Borovcanin ’20, a computer science major.  Other team members were Jordan Miller ’19, a management major from Waynesboro, PA, Tyler Thomas, a senior marketing major from Spotsylvania, VA, and Erin Turner, a junior exercise science major from Jane Lew.  The co-advisors of the group are Dr. Dodson and Kelly Sharp, assistant professor of economics.

The Enactus program is part of the Thomas H. Albinson II School of Business. The School offers majors in accounting, business administration, economics, management, marketing, and sport marketing along with the five-year master of business administration and master of business administration programs.
