Dear Friends: Warmest greetings from City Hall. It’s already been four years since we began our successful campaign to enhance integrity and transparency in our City government. I now seek your continued support during the fast-approaching June 9 election. While together we have realized many advancements in our community, there are many important matters to see to completion. For that, I’m asking for your help.

Projects that we need to push forward include construction of the new multi-purpose building at our Stockert Youth & Community Center; completion of your Colonial Theatre; and undertaking of our next phases of our Poundstone Memorial River Walk Trail. These projects support our youth, our arts, and our community’s overall well-being.

We have built or reconstructed thousands of feet of sidewalk, paved and repaired many streets, and enhanced our excellent parks. Buckhannon has never been more walkable, connected, and livable! Our downtown has seen about $20 million in investments just since 2016. Our City has more dining options than ever, and we have more retail choices than we have enjoyed in ages. Jawbone Park is at its best, the Trader’s Alley Arts’ District is amazing, and our Buckhannon Dog Park has been a terrific addition. Our City’s future is very bright and investors have shown great confidence in the viability of our community.

Our police and fire departments are both working toward full, professional accreditation and have never been stronger; our public works have greatly expanded; and we have stabilized the finances in all of our public utilities.  We have worked collaboratively with public and private players to tackle the regional drug epidemic.

With 37 years of service to our community, I believe that our City has never been better positioned to succeed than it is right now. There is an undeniable vibrancy in our downtown. We enjoy a high quality of life with our wonderful town center anchored by our College on the east side, and our Hospital on the west side. We have partnered on projects with our school system, Wesleyan, St. Joe’s, the Parish House, the Child Development Center, and so many public and private entities to improve life here for everyone. Our City’s partnership with our community is like a family with a huge table that continues to add leafs for more and more people to gather around, contributing their talents and ideas to make us even better.

Still, as we have learned from the past, continuing to move forward positively is a fragile matter.  You, our residents, validate or reject our effort. A few votes may be the difference in making even more good things happen, or taking steps backward. Your vote to continue our progress is critical to our success. I respectfully ask for your support on June 9.  Remember — we truly are all in this together!
