A 25-year-old man in Logan County with COVID-19 died Saturday, West Virginia’s seventh death related to the virus.
WSAZ first reported the news Saturday afternoon, attributing the information to Logan County Health Department Director Steve Browning, who said the young man had been in the ICU for at least 10 days.
On social media, family members identified the man as Teddy Nelson of Logan.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced another death related to the virus in a press release Saturday evening, saying 82-year old woman from Wayne County with underlying health conditions had also passed away due to COVID-19.
Overall, the DHHR reported fewer results on Saturday, with 17 new confirmed cases from 718 tests. That is the lowest number of both tests and positive results this month.
All of the new confirmed cases are from people tested within the last week.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m., on April 11, 2020, there have been 15,819 residents tested for COVID-19, with 591 positive, 15,228 negative and six deaths,” according to a press release.
The death reported in Logan County is expected to be reflected in a future update.
According to DHHR data, 26 percent of those who test positive must be hospitalized and more than half have a preexisting condition.
Upshur County still has identified just three known cases of COVID-19, one of whom has recovered. The remaining two were in isolation at home as of Friday.
New cases were reported Saturday in Berkeley, Cabell, Hampshire, Jefferson, Kanawha, Mason, McDowell, Mineral, Monongalia, Morgan, Putnam, Randolph, Summers and Tucker counties.
