West Virginia reported four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state on Sunday, bringing the total number up to 16.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources today confirmed four new cases of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the state, making the total positive case count at 16,” according to a press release from the DHHR. “New cases were identified in Jefferson, Kanawha and Monongalia counties.”

Those four positive results came from about 60 new tests reported Sunday.

“As of March 22, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., 460 residents have been tested for COVID-19, with 16 positive, 444 negative and 4 tests pending (at state lab),” the release states. “These numbers include positive and negative tests from the state’s public health lab, commercial labs and hospitals.”

According to the DHHR, “The breakdown of cases by county are three individuals from Jefferson County, one individual from Jackson County, three individuals from Kanawha County, two from Marshall County, two from Mercer County, two from Monongalia County, one from Putnam County and two individuals from Tucker County.”

Also on Sunday, the United States became the country with the third highest total of confirmed cases worldwide, with more than 33,000 positive COVID-19 results in the U.S. China has reported 81,000 cases, while Italy has 59,000.

Worldwide, more than 330,000 people have tested positive for the virus. Approximately 14,500 have died, while 97,000 have recovered, according to date compiled from John Hopkins University.

In nearby Ohio, Gov. Mike DeWine issued a shelter in place order that would require people to remain home except for essential activities. West Virginia governor Jim Justice said he would not institute such an order in a statewide address Saturday night.

Justice has scheduled a press briefing for 11 a.m. Monday morning.
