The latest closings and cancellations

To assist local residents with planning, My Buckhannon has compiled a list of closings, cancellations and rescheduled events affecting Upshur County and the surrounding areas as schedules are changed due to COVID-19.   • The Strawberry Festival pageants scheduled for the weekend of March 21-22 have been postponed.
  • SUBA Meet the Candidates night set for April 1 has been canceled.
  • Upshur County PreK and Kindergarten Registration for 2020-2021 set for March 20 has been postponed.
  • Grab N Go bag lunches available at Parish House March 16-20 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. All other services temporarily closed.
  • Meals are available for children. “Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, school buses will be delivering breakfast to all bus stop locations between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.,” Upshur County Schools announced Friday evening. “Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, a prepared meal will be provided at each school each day from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Each school will have a designated location for meal pick up.” All Upshur County students and children under the age of 18 are eligible to receive meals.
  • Stockert Youth and Community Center will close immediately and remain closed until school resumes.
  • The Upshur Youth Art Exhibition at the Colonial Theater has been postponed until schools reopen.
  • Upshur County Youth Soccer has suspended the start of soccer activities for at least two weeks. No practices or games may be held.
  • Upshur County All-County Chorus has been canceled and will not be rescheduled at this time.
  • Buckhannon-Upshur 4H Archery and Air Rifle Club has canceled all tournaments and practices until further notice.
  • The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has canceled the sectional meeting on proposed hunting and fishing regulations scheduled for Tuesday in Buckhannon.
  • All West Virginia schools will be closed beginning Monday, March 16 until further notice.
  • All extracurricular school activities are canceled.
  • The Maple Syrup Festival, scheduled for March 21-22 in Pickens, has been canceled.
  • The Event Center at Brushy Fork will not hold events the weekend of March 13-15. A policy for future dates is TBD.
  • West Virginia Wesleyan College has canceled classes through March 17 and is asking students to depart campus and return home by 5 p.m. Sunday, March 15. The remainder of the semester will be online-only.
  • All on-campus events at WVWC have been canceled through April 30.
  • Upshur County Relay for Life’s team meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 19 has been canceled. The committee meeting will proceed as scheduled for committee members who are able to attend; the yard sale will be postponed and rescheduled when possible.
  • JesterLine Gaming Technologies will close at 9 p.m. each night to allow extra time for cleaning and remain closed Sundays through Tuesdays until further notice.
  • WVU has suspended in-person classes the week following spring break (March 23-27) and will then offer online class instruction or other alternative learning options beginning March 30.
  • Marshall University will suspend in-person classes the week before spring break, March 16-20, and transition to online classes beginning March 30.
  • Alderson-Broaddus University will extend spring break for one week for all students, with academic instruction resuming — possibly in an online format — on Monday, March 23.
  • The Mountain East Conference has suspended all sporting events indefinitely.
  • The NCAA has canceled March Madness and all spring championships.
  • The WVSSAC has postponed the state high school basketball tournaments indefinitely.
