GLENVILLE, WV – The Little Kanawha Reading Series is pleased to present its first literary reading for 2020 on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Robert F. Kidd Library on the Glenville State College Campus at 6 p.m. The featured readers include Mary Imo-Stike, Lisa Hayes-Minney, and Marjorie Stewart.
Refreshments and a Q&A with the authors will follow their reading. This event is free and open to the public. Free street parking is available in front of the RFK Library, as well as in the lot behind the library.
Mary Imo-Stike was born and raised in Rochester, New York. She worked non-traditional jobs as a railroad track laborer, a plumber, boiler operator, and gas line inspector. Imo-Stike received her MFA from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2015 and served as the poetry co-editor of HeartWood literary journal. She was the co-creator of More Than Words, a monthly literary event in Hurricane, West Virginia. Her poems have been published in many journals, and her chapbook In and Out of the Horse Latitudes was published in 2018 by Finishing Line Press.
Lisa Hayes-Minney published Two-Lane Livin’ magazine for ten years. She has been an award-winning journalist, and now serves as Library Director of Gilmer Public Library. Her writing has appeared in Wonderful West Virginia magazine, Entropy magazine, and others, as well as several anthologies.
Marjorie Stewart, a Pittsburgh native, holds an MFA in fiction writing from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in English composition from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. A playwright, she has had 25 productions of her plays and has a secret history as a standup comic. She is a member of the Department of Language and Literature at Glenville State College.
The mission of the Little Kanawha Reading Series is to provide a showcase for a diversity of literary forms and voices in order to acknowledge and enrich the cultural heritage of Appalachia and the communities around the Little Kanawha River.
More readings and events are scheduled for March and April.
