A 32-year-old woman was killed in a wreck on Route 4 just over the Lewis/Upshur County line Tuesday afternoon.

Nova Bender, 32, of Braxton County, died in the accident, Lewis County Sheriff Adam Gissy confirmed to My Buckhannon on Thursday. She was driving a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck that appeared to have rolled and ended up in a ditch, against an embankment about two miles from the Route 4 and Route 19 intersection. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

“She was ejected and perished on the scene as a result of injuries suffered in the accident,” Gissy said.

Firefighters from Banks District and Adrian in Upshur County responded to the wreck, which occurred at about 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The truck caught fire and was fully engulfed by the time emergency responders arrived, and the flames sparked a brush fire in the area near the wreck.

Cpl. Eli Carpenter with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating officer.
