CHARLESTON, WV– Today, Gov. Jim Justice issued a letter to West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission Chancellor Sarah Tucker in support of Wheeling University – formerly known as Wheeling Jesuit University – and its plan to remain in operation.
Gov. Justice is calling upon the HEPC to do everything in its power to make sure Wheeling University stays open for the sake of its students and the community they serve.
Patty L. Andrus, 84, of Buckhannon, died April 20, 2026, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. She was a beautician, homemaker, caretaker and volunteer who enjoyed studying the Bible, gardening and time with family.
Eddy Lynn Farnsworth, 73, of Buckhannon, WV, died on April 20, 2026, at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a school bus driver in Upshur County.
West Virginia Wesleyan was swept by the University of Charleston in Sunday’s doubleheader, falling 3-1 in the opener before a 12-inning 6-5 marathon in game two.
Buckhannon-Upshur closed the regular season with a split, falling 5-2 at Elkins before bouncing back with a 5-2 win at Robert C. Byrd. The Bucs are 4-9 (4-5 Big 10) as they head to the Big 10 Conference tournament in Bridgeport this Friday and Saturday.
Buckhannon-Upshur’s Lady Bucs split a pair of Big 10 road matches, falling 6-1 at Elkins before edging Robert C. Byrd 4-3 to close the regular season. Freshman Madison Cutright delivered key wins, and the Lady Bucs head into the Big 10 tournament at RCB.
The West Virginia Natural Resources Commission meets Thursday, April 30 at 6 p.m., with simultaneous in-person sessions across WVDNR’s six districts to gather public input.
