CHARLESTON, WV – The Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs is proud to announce they have selected Donell Jones as the headlining act for the third annual Juneteenth Celebration.

The event is set for Saturday, June 15, from 5-9 p.m. in the North Plaza of the State Capitol Complex.

“Each year, HHOMA’s Juneteenth celebration gets bigger and better”, said Jill Upson, Executive Director. “We are excited about all of our West Virginia performers, and very pleased to welcome Award-Winning recording artist, Donell Jones to our great state.”

Donell Jones is a Grammy-nominated R&B/Soul singer, songwriter and producer. Jones’ debut album, My Heart, peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In 1999, he released Where I Wanna Be which produced the No. 1 hits “Where I Wanna Be” and “U Know What’s Up.” His third album, Life Goes On, hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and went gold.

Jones returned in 2006 with Journey of a Gemini and in 2009 with The Lost Files.

The Juneteenth Celebration will also include performances by McKenzie and Jasmyne Gray, Wild & Wonderful WV Dancers (W3), QT Girl, Karma and 3 Chill, Leisha Gray, Kanawha Players, Jamela Brown, and Kingston Price.

This is the third year that HHOMA has hosted the Juneteenth Celebration in partnership with FestivALL Charleston. This year it will be held at the State Capitol Complex complete with games, prizes, crafts, vendors, food and more. This event is free of charge and open to the public. Prizes for children will be awarded at the end of the evening.
