The students from Buckhannon-Upshur High School have surpassed our expectations again, this time with their dedication to a project and their giving hearts.
These students, along with the volunteer efforts of several B-UHS staff members, were able to knit a basket full of baby hats to donate to the St. Joseph’s Hospital OB department. To add to this experience, the students’ teacher, who has been coordinating the project, chaperoned the students on a trip to the hospital to donate the hats in person and get a peek at the most recent arrivals wearing a hat of the mother’s choice.
The students used looms, donated by Walmart of Buckhannon, to knit the hats, while the supervising staff crocheted appliques to sew to the hats.
As a team, the students and staff have created some wonderful works of art that will be treasured by the mothers’ and fathers’ who receive them for their newborn babies. These hats will be in many cherished pictures of each baby’s first days and may hang on a Christmas Tree or in a keepsake box for years to come, an idea that should make these yarn enthusiasts very proud.
