Allison Javorsky, a fourth grader at Culloden Elementary School in Cabell County, won the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s ninth annual fire safety poster contest. The competition drew more than 750 entries from 36 schools in 18 counties, according to the office’s October 7 release.
“All winning posters will be featured in the State Fire Marshal’s upcoming 2027 calendar,” the release states.
Students drew on this year’s National Fire Protection Association theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower,” along with other fire prevention messages.
State Fire Marshal Kenneth E. Tyree Jr. plans to visit each winning school to present a plaque, framed artwork and a governor’s proclamation, Public Information Officer Timothy Rock wrote in the email accompanying the release.
The contest has recognized Upshur students in earlier years, including Buckhannon Academy third grader Miley Tallman in 2019. Javorsky’s overall winning poster appears above; the other 11 winners follow with their artwork, each listed by school, county and grade.
