Reports of rape fell from 20 in 2024 to 12 in 2025, while burglaries rose from 25 to 28, according to a release from West Virginia University. Its latest Clery Act report also counts hazing for the first time, with three incidents involving student organizations.

Of the burglary count, the university said in the release that “one reported incident accounted for six statistics since one property with five occupied bedrooms was unlawfully entered.”

Hazing became reportable through the Stop Campus Hazing Act, which amended the Clery Act. My Buckhannon’s coverage of last year’s report outlined that change.

The release describes little change from the previous year in reports of domestic violence, stalking and motor vehicle theft.

It also describes one report classified as murder/nonnegligent manslaughter: an overdose death involving someone unaffiliated with WVU. Morgantown police handled that case at Patteson Drive and Monongahela Boulevard.

St. Joseph's Hospital

The annual report summarizes crime and fire safety, counting reported crimes as the federal Clery Act defines them. It covers WVU’s Morgantown campus, the Eastern and Charleston health sciences divisions and the Bridgeport nursing campus. Counts include reports from outside police agencies for campus and off-campus areas covered by the law. They do not show investigation outcomes.
