BUCKHANNON — OUR House is inviting walkers, runners and donors to support its recovery programs September 26 as the nonprofit returns to the Tucker Community Foundation’s annual Run For It in Davis.
This will be the team’s fourth year participating. Its 2026 theme, “Freedom Through Recovery,” will guide the costumes members wear for the event.
“This is not only our biggest fundraiser of the year, but it is the event we look forward to the most. We race to show that recovery from substance use disorder is possible,” said Megan Payne, director of the One Unique Recovery House.
Supporters can join the 2K walk or 5K run, participate in a virtual walk at their convenience or contribute to the team. Those who walk or run with OUR House in Davis will receive a free OUR House race day shirt.
The 5K begins at 11 a.m. and the 2K walk at 11:15 a.m., according to the Run For It registration website.
Registration and donations are available through the OUR House team page. Donations go directly to the organization, and raising money beyond its $1,500 goal helps the team compete for additional monetary awards on race day.
One Unique Recovery House provides recovery housing and peer support for people recovering from substance use disorder. Its services include recovery planning, transportation assistance and community outreach. The organization operates men’s and women’s programs.
The fundraiser follows a summer funding loss that affected two peer recovery support specialist positions. Buckhannon City Council awarded OUR House $10,000 in opioid settlement funds in August to help keep those workers on the job.
Preparing for Run For It takes months, including making decorations by hand and delivering sponsorship requests. The team began as OUR House Runners in 2023, adopted a superhero theme in 2024 and raced as Unity Warriors in 2025. OUR House has shared previous team photos on its Facebook event page.
“What makes this event so special to me is the sense of community,” Payne said. “Organizations from all walks of life come together, each supporting a different mission, yet united by a common purpose — to make a difference. Together, we remind one another that change is possible, recovery is real, and when a community comes together, incredible things can happen.”
This year, OUR House is connecting the fundraiser with another event two days earlier: Save a Life Day on September 24. The organization will raffle a pair of Zales Double Heart Earrings to raise money for its Run For It team.
To enter, visit any of the seven participating Save a Life Day sites, receive Narcan training for the first time or pick up new Narcan supplies and make a monetary donation of any amount to OUR House’s Freedom Through Recovery team. The raffle tickets will be purple in recognition of September as Recovery Month.
The winner will be selected randomly at 7:30 p.m. on September 24 at Jawbone Park during Save a Life Day/Recover Out Loud. A list of all seven sites and their hours is available on My Buckhannon’s event calendar.
