Barbara Dawn Austin, 53, of Buckhannon, WV, died at her home on May 28, 2026. She worked for the FBI as a fingerprint examiner and is survived by her parents and other family members.

Margie Marie Smith Riggs, 93, of Buckhannon, WV, passed away on May 29, 2026, at Serenity Care. She was a retired WVWC employee who loved her family, gardening, and the outdoors.

Fresh off a state championship, Buckhannon-Upshur dominated the 2026 WVSLA Division II All-State Team with 11 players honored across First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention, plus both coaches recognized. The Bucs went 11-4 and crushed Jefferson County 15-3 for the title.

Buckhannon-Upshur seniors Mallory Moss and Brianna Howes were named First Team All-State by the WVSLA after helping the Lady Bucs to an 8-5 season. Goalie Josie Rosencrance earned Second Team honors after allowing just 5.5 goals per game.

WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital and BlaineTurner Advertising won a 32nd Annual Communicator Award for the “WVU and Community” campaign in Film & Video – Medical & Pharma. The authentic, community-centered storytelling highlighted trusted, high-quality care close to home.

Blackwater Falls State Park Foundation has secured a $12,000 Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation grant to advance International Dark Sky certification by replacing 71 noncompliant exterior lodge lights.
