Margie Marie Smith Riggs, age 93, of Buckhannon, WV, died Friday, May 29, 2026, at Serenity Care in Buckhannon. She was born November 19, 1932, in Barbour County, the eldest daughter of the late Clarence and Georgia Winans Smith.
On April 16, 1955, she married Phillip A. Riggs, who preceded her in death on September 15, 2020. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Riggs Perry; son-in-law, Danny Perry; son, Steven Riggs; great-grandson, Jonathan Perry; and two sisters, Opal Smith Seech and Helen Smith Crumrine.
She is survived by two grandsons, Tim Perry and wife Erin of Sago and Cason Riggs of Buckhannon; one great-grandson, Andrew Perry of Sago; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Riggs of Buckhannon; brother, Harold Smith and wife Joan of Parma Heights, Ohio; two sisters, Lottie (Louie) Seech and Evelyn Murphy; and a dear friend, Sherman Baxa, all of Buckhannon.
Margie graduated from Philippi High School in 1950, and she retired from WVWC in January 1993.
She enjoyed shopping, working crossword puzzles, gardening, mowing her yard, and anything outdoors. Margie loved her family, and they enjoyed many delicious meals at her table.
A special thank you is extended by the family to the staff of Serenity Care and WVU Hospice for the outstanding care they provided Margie.
A graveside service and interment will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the Heavner Cemetery with Pastor Greg Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margie’s memory to your favorite charity. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.heavnerandcutright.com.
