John William Hitt, Jr., age 95, of Weston, WV, died Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the White Sulphur Springs Center in White Sulphur Springs, WV.
He was born May 21, 1930, in Lewis County, WV, a son of the late John William and Virginia Viola Sines Hitt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Hitt Rohrbough; son, Joseph P. Hitt; two brothers, Mike and Tom Hitt; and two sisters, Shirley Badgett and Patricia Huffman.
He is survived by two granddaughters, Tina Crook and husband Lloyd of Cool Ridge, WV, and Barbara Mathess and husband Danny of Glenville, WV; two grandsons, David L. Rohrbough and wife Mary of Alum Bridge, WV, and Joseph P. Hitt, II and wife Heather of Clarksburg, WV; 14 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephews, Michael and Martin Butcher, Sabrina Dewitt, and Michelle Sumpter; several other nieces and nephews; and close friends Tom Bonnett and Greg Williston.
Mr. Hitt, Jr. was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and worked on tugboats as a mechanic. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, and being outdoors.
In honoring John’s wishes, he will be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later date.
