Seven Upshur County FFA members earn American FFA Degrees

Buckhannon resident Lauren Winans has been appointed by Gov. Patrick Morrisey to the West Virginia Natural Resources Commission, representing District 3 on the seven-member advisory body.

Local Educators Rising students are headed to Canaan Valley this week for state-level competitions running Monday through Wednesday.

Bridgeport native Reese Allen, a senior in mechanical engineering and data science, was named WVU’s 72nd Mountaineer mascot for 2026-27 during the Feb. 28 men’s basketball game. Joel Hershman of Buckhannon was among the four finalists.

Barbour Community Health Association has named longtime community advocate Josh Allen as chief operating officer, following the retirement of Deborah “Debbie” Schoonover after 25 years.

Robert Lee Williams Jr, 59, of Buckhannon, passed away on February 28, 2026, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He loved fishing, hunting, and time at camp, and worked for many years in the oil fields.
