Iris Rosetta Smith

Iris Rosetta Smith, 93, of Rock Cave, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at the home of her daughter.

She was born on Nov. 13, 1925, at Queens, a daughter of the late Clemer and Millie Poling Snyder.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wesley “Buster” Smith on Oct. 5, 2004.

She is survived by one son Eugene Smith of Ellamore, five daughters: Kathern and husband David Burkhammer of Volga, Gladys and husband John Riley of Crawford, Hilda and husband James Bailey of Rock Cave, Millie, and Geraldine; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons:  Edward and Guy Smith; three grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Smith was a caretaker of the elderly for many years and spent countless hours at the local senior centers caring for others. She had attended the Sand Run Baptist Church and loved gospel music.

She adored flowers and was an avid gardener, having worked in her gardens until the age of 92.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, from 11 a.m.-noon, the funeral hour, with Pastor David Jessie and Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Lanham Cemetery at Queens.
