Hodgesville Elementary to receive state support as part of four-year improvement program

Upshur County Schools are proud to announce continued progress in student achievement and growth across the district. Recent data shows encouraging gains in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics:

  • ELA Achievement increased by 09%, with growth improving by 3.52%
  • Math Achievement rose by 88%, with growth increasing by 11.43%

These improvements reflect the district’s commitment to the continuous improvement cycle framework, which empowers schools to analyze data, identify needs, and implement strategies that enhance student learning outcomes.

“We are excited about the progress our students and staff have made,” said Christine Miller, Superintendent of Upshur County Schools. “At the same time, we recognize that continued effort and collaboration are essential to sustaining and expanding these gains.”

As part of this ongoing journey, Hodgesville Elementary School has been selected by the West Virginia Department of Education Office of Federal Programs and Support to receive additional support through the Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) designation. This four-year process will focus on identifying and addressing specific needs in student learning and attendance.

“This designation is not a setback — it’s an opportunity,” Miller emphasized. “Hodgesville Elementary will receive targeted resources and support that will benefit not only their students but also contribute to stronger outcomes across the entire district.”

The CSI process will involve county leadership, school administration, staff, families, and the community, working together to ensure success. Upshur County Schools remain committed to transparency, collaboration and excellence in education.

“We look forward to partnering with all stakeholders as we continue to build a system that supports every student’s growth and achievement,” Miller said.
