City of Buckhannon calendar: July 7-11, 2025

Buckhannon has announced a series of July public meetings, bulky item and yard waste collections, family-friendly events such as Festival Fridays, deadline reminders for firefighter applications, and performances of “Mamma Mia!” at the Colonial Arts Center.

Unless otherwise noted, all meetings are open to the public and will be held in the Council Chambers of Buckhannon City Hall, 70 E Main St, Buckhannon, WV 26201.

Bulky goods collection begins at 5:30 a.m. Buckhannon Waste Department customers may schedule pickup of up to four large items (for example, couches, chairs, mattresses and appliances) per month and up to eight tires per year. Call by Wednesday, July 9 to schedule a pickup. Items must be at the curb by 5:30 a.m. on Friday to ensure collection.

Yard waste collection for city residents. Residents must contact City Hall to be placed on the collection list. Alternatively, city residents may take bagged yard waste to the transfer station during normal operating hours at no charge and may bring up to two truckloads per year free of charge.

Festival Fridays in Jawbone Park continues its summer season with the band Soda Pop Gypsies, whose style encompasses a diverse range of genres. Festival Fridays is a free, family-friendly community event hosted by Create Buckhannon. Enjoy live music, local food vendors, fresh produce and a variety of artisans and crafters. Notice: rescheduled City Council meeting — The City Council meeting originally set for July 17, 2025, has been moved to Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Deadline approaches for firefighter applications — The Fire Civil Service Commission will accept applications for probationary firefighter through 4:30 p.m. on July 11, 2025. Applications must be delivered to City Hall or postmarked by midnight to Fire Civil Service Commission, 70 E Main St, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Applicants must be at least 18 years old; have a high school diploma or equivalent; meet state code and commission requirements; and pass a physical agility test, written exam, criminal background check, drug test, physical exam and psychological evaluation. Application forms are available at the City Recorder’s Office, City Hall, or by calling 304-472-1651.

The Colonial Arts Center hosts BCT’s “Mamma Mia!” — “Mamma Mia!” is a feel-good musical set on a Greek island. It follows Sophie, a young bride-to-be, as she seeks to discover her father’s identity before her wedding. Featuring 22 hit songs by ABBA, it tells a story of love, family and friendship. Updates regarding yard waste collection — Yard waste will be collected on July 11 and 25, and August 8 and 22, 2025. Beginning September 1 and through November 30, collection will occur every Friday. Residents must contact City Hall to join the collection list or may drop bagged yard waste at the transfer station during normal hours at no charge, with a two-truckload annual limit.

Pay utility bills online or by phone — Pay online at https://www.municipalonlinepayments.com/buckhannonwv or by calling 1-866-933-4026. Even if you don’t pay online, setting up an account lets you monitor your consumption. You will need your Utility Board account number and your last payment amount to register.

Report a repair or concern — To report potholes, damaged street signs, park issues or other city matters, call City Hall during business hours to submit a work order request or use the Citizens Engagement tool at https://buckhannonwv.portal.iworq.net/BUCKHANNON/new-request/700/3444 for faster response.
