The City of Buckhannon announced a Reger Avenue paving project, arts events including the Vandalia Arts Journal Exhibition and Alice in Wonderland, upcoming council meetings, and street closures for WVWC graduation, while reminding residents of online services and reporting tools.

Reger Avenue, Paving Project – The City of Buckhannon Street Department has announced that the city’s outside contractor, J.F. Allen Company, will pave Reger Avenue starting Monday, April 28, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. Please have all vehicles off the street by that time. The paving process should be concluded by the end of the day on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we improve Reger Avenue.

Yard Waste Collection (Must Be On Pickup List) – Yard waste is collected from City of Buckhannon residents on the first and third Friday of the month from December 1 through August 31, and every Friday from September 1 through November 30. Residents must contact Buckhannon City Hall (304-472-1651) to be placed on the collection list. City residents may take their bagged yard waste to the Recycling Center during normal operating hours free of charge and may bring two truckloads to the Recycling Center per year, free of charge.

The Colonial Arts Center and The CAC Gallery present the 2025 Vandalia Arts Journal Exhibition – The CAC Gallery has announced the first-ever exhibition showcasing works from The Vandalia Arts Journal. The exhibition runs through Saturday, May 10, 2025, with a Vandalia Launch Party on Thursday, May 1, from 5 – 6 p.m. The Vandalia Arts Journal is West Virginia Wesleyan College’s literary arts journal that showcases the talents of WVWC students in poetry, prose, and visual arts. All aspects of the journal are staffed by undergraduate students from the jurying of included works to the layout of the publication. The CAC Gallery is open Fridays and Saturdays from 4 – 8 p.m. or by appointment. It is located at 48 East Main Street in downtown Buckhannon, WV. All gallery events are free and open to the public.

Buckhannon Community Theatre presents Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland will be held at the Colonial Arts Center, with shows on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 7:00 pm, Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and Sunday, May 11, 2025, at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm. City to assist with WVWC graduation – Certain street closures on May 10, 2025

To ensure the safety of West Virginia Wesleyan College graduates, guests, and event staff, and to minimize disruptions during the ceremony, the City of Buckhannon will be placing barricades at the following locations beginning at 8:00 a.m. and lasting until the ceremony concludes:

  • Corner of Florida Street and Camden Avenue – the purpose is to restrict general access to campus, but we will allow residents to reach their homes
  • Meade Street and Camden Avenue intersection
  • Meade Street and Wesley Drive intersection – We will permit access for handicapped parking
  • Camden Avenue and Brooke Street (Middle Nursing Building) – full closure to prevent through traffic.

Even if you do not wish to pay your bill using this method, you may still want to set up an account, which will allow you to monitor your consumption. To sign up for this service, you will need to complete the online registration, which includes knowing your Utility Board Account Number (printed on your bill) and the last amount you paid. Once your account has been established, you must log in with the proper email and password.

Reporting a necessary repair or registering a concern with the city

To report a necessary repair, such as potholes, damaged street signs, an issue in a city park, etc., or any other matter that a city department should attend to, call City Hall during regular business hours and ask to submit a work order request, or report your concerns through our Citizens Engagement tool: https://buckhannonwv.portal.iworq.net/BUCKHANNON/new-request/700/3444. This will speed up the reaction time to a matter that needs immediate attention.
