Carpenter Crunch Time Championship Week

BUCKHANNON – Back in a mid-October column, I gave my predictions on who would be in the title games in four classifications. Let’s see how I did.

Who made it?

AAAA

Martinsburg and Spring Mills.

Who did I pick?

Martinsburg and Spring Mills. This was an easy one to pick, although I thought Huntington may have a shot, and boy they almost beat Martinsburg last week losing in the final seconds by a 35-34 score.

AAA

Who made it?

Bridgeport and Herbert Hoover

Who did I pick?

Bridgeport and Fairmont Senior. The way the brackets played out, this game happened in the semis. I also thought Herbert Hoover and Princeton could break through and Herbert Hoover did.

AA

Who made it?

Roane County and Frankfort.

Who did I pick?

Williamstown and Frankfort. Like in AAA, these two teams met in the semis with Frankfort winning 49-7. Roane County has been impressive all season with a 13-0 record.

A

Who made it?

Cameron and Wahama.

Who did I pick?

Tug Valley and Wahama.

I do admit I don’t keep close tabs on Class A football. Tug Valley was the number one team but got blasted in the semis by Cameron by a 36-0 score.

Overall, I would say it wasn’t a bad look into the future by yours truly.

Now, onto the important stuff, the My Buckhannon standings, which look like this.

Name   Week   Overall
Duane   5-2       86-19
Brian      4-3       80-25
Katie      4-3       67-38
Monica  2-5       63-42

I won the week with a 5-2 mark while Brian and Katie both went 4-3 and Monica had a rough week at 2-5. With a six-game lead and only five games on tap this week, I officially won the Crunch Title for 2024 taking it back from Brian who won it last year.

As far as our readers go, we had the rare double winners. We had three pickers go 6-1, Mackenzie Michael, Bobbie Hatcher and Brian Jones, but it was Hatcher and Jones that both picked 52 as their tiebreaker score of the Arizona State-Iowa State which was 64 points. Congrats to both winners on their $20 gift certificate to Sam’s Pizza. You can still get the games in this week before Friday at 7 p.m. by clicking here.

Now a look at our final picks of the year.
