Wesleyan volleyball sweeps Glenville State in straight sets

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team played its next to last home match against the Pioneers of Glenville State University on Friday. With a win, the Lady Bobcats solidified its spot in the MEC Tournament coming up at the end of November.

The Lady Bobcats swept the Pioneers 3-0 as solid serving and hitting percentage for the Lady Bobcats steered their way to victory. Wesleyan recorded double-digit serving aces with 10 on the night. With 40 kills to the Pioneers’ 24, the offensive production for the Lady Bobcats was not to be questioned. A hitting percentage of 25.6 percent across the three sets compared to Glenville’s 13 percent proved to be the difference maker.

Notable performances included Olivia Albrecht who lead the team with 11 kills. Bhrooke Axe followed with nine kills as well as two block assists at the net. Sophomore Emily Denison had a good all around performance recording seven kills, 11 digs, five serving aces, and two block assists. Sarah McCall and Helena Kelley split the setting duties as McCall recorded 18 assists and Kelley with 14.

The Lady Bobcats will travel to West Virginia State University to play the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
